Traveling the south island of new zealand we were lucky enough to stay at the cheviot motel in one of the cozy, comfy cabins. The comfortable bed, the efficient kitchen and clean bathrooms with awesome showers made the stay enjoyable. We highly recommend the Cheviot Motel and Holiday Park.

February 2011 - We arrived in Christchurch just minutes before the earthquake struck. Our hotel on the Banks Peninsula now inaccessible, we headed north, along with what seemed a sizable portion of the Christchurch population. We were fortunate to land at the almost full Cheviot Motel -- I believe we got the last available room. Despite having being shaken by a national tragedy and having to cope with an unexpected influx of traumatized guests, our hosts were still able to be gracious and accommodating to two disoriented tourists. We stayed for two nights -- the facilities were clean and pleasant, and the surroundings beautiful. Sitting on the porch of the Jail, watching the morning sun advance on the back field while listening to two tuis warbling back and forth, is one of the most tranquil and peaceful memories of my trip. Thanks to Di and Greg for a wonderful introduction to New Zealand.

January 2012. Had a lovely stay in the nicely refurbished Unit 6 for a night in early Jan 2012. Wish we could've stayed longer. Great facilities (especially the pool), well appointed unit and quiet and quaint surroundings. Overall, exceptional value for money. Elsewhere you can pay a lot more for a lot less. We'll be back!

We recently stayed in your motel on the way back from Christchurch. We wanted a nice quiet place to stay, not too big so had a look around Cheviot and found "The Cheviot Motel". We found the quietness of the Cheviot Motel and the friendly owners just great. The unit we were in was clean and fresh and had it's own kitchen which we wanted. The unit was also spacious which allowed us to "spread out" a bit. We went for a walk around the site the next morning and found a camp site with trees for shelter and amenities. The owners gave us some lovely free range eggs, toast and orange juice which we had for breakfast, cooked in the kitchen at our motel! We would definitely go back there on our next trip to see our family in Christchurch.

We stayed recently one night at the camping ground of the Cheviot Motel and found the place very quiet, nice and welcomed; owners kind and very helpful. Lots of space, beautiful scenery, free range eggs... That was a great decision to make a stop there on our way from Kaikoura back to Christchurch. We would definitely come back here on our next trip on the east coast.
