With walks up the side of the river, this is also a good picnic area.

An interesting swing bridge is a feature near the river mouth. This bridge was built by Selwyn Toogoods’s father.

The Hurunui River is of course famous for trout, salmon and whitebait fishing.

The river mouth can be reached by unsealed road from Gore Bay, or a sealed road from Domett.
